Swiss Rents Continue to Rise in Second Quarter of 2024
Rent prices in Switzerland have risen again, according to a report from real estate company Wüest Partner. However, more building projects might help the situation soon.
Rents Increased by 6.4 Percent in Q2 2024
In the second quarter of 2024, rent prices in Switzerland went up by 6.4 percent compared to last year. Buying a house isn’t much easier, as prices are also going up. The price of condos increased by 3.5 percent, and single-family homes by 2.5 percent.
More Construction Projects Might Help
Wüest Partner says that Switzerland’s growing population and slow building rate mean that rents will stay high for now. But, there was a 22 percent increase in building permit applications in the second quarter of 2024, totaling 34,150 units. This could mean more homes will be built soon. However, it usually takes a few years for new buildings to be ready, so the housing shortage will likely continue for now.
