Last year, strong winds prevented the flag from being unfurled. This year, if the weather is good, the giant flag will be displayed on the northern slope of Säntis mountain at 10:30 am on July 31. The flag will be an impressive sight for National Day celebrations. Many people will take the Säntis cable car up the mountain to enjoy the view.
Giant Swiss Flag Weighs Over 700 Kilograms
The flag was made by Heimgartner Fahnen AG in Wil. It took over 600 hours to sew 4,330 meters of fabric and 3,500 meters of straps, using more than 60 kilometers of thread. The flag is 6,400 square meters and weighs over 700 kilograms.
You can sponsor a section of the flag for 99 euros. Sponsors get a free ride up and down the mountain on the cable car on National Day.
