Winter Finally Arrives in Switzerland with Snow Forecast for Low-Lying Areas

Unseasonably Warm Start to November

Earlier this month, temperatures across Switzerland felt more like spring. On November 1, temperatures reached double digits even in high-altitude ski resorts. This unusual warmth led to fears that the ski season might be delayed due to a lack of snow. The warm weather persisted throughout the first week of November, with fog and low clouds dominating the landscape.

Sunshine in the Mountains

Despite the fog and clouds in the lowlands, the mountains enjoyed bright sunshine and warm temperatures. This sunny weather provided a pleasant respite for those seeking some vitamin D. The southern Alps, particularly Canton Ticino, saw the warmest temperatures, reaching up to 15 degrees Celsius.

Snow and Cold Weather on the Way

However, starting next week, winter will make its presence felt. Temperatures are set to drop from Monday onwards, bringing cloud cover and scattered showers. The Alps are expected to receive significant snowfall, with temperatures falling below freezing in popular ski resorts. On the Jungfraujoch, for example, temperatures will not rise above minus 11 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday.
