Uber Launches New Services in Switzerland

Uber Launches Two New Ride Services in Four Swiss Cities

Uber has launched two new ride services in Switzerland, designed to improve accessibility and convenience for families and those with limited mobility. Starting November 2024, users in Zurich, Basel, Lausanne, and Geneva can book Uber Assist and Uber Childseat through the app.

Uber Assist: Support for Older Adults and People with Disabilities

Uber Assist is aimed at older adults and people with disabilities. The service connects riders with specially trained drivers, who can help passengers safely enter and exit the vehicle and assist with storing mobility aids, such as walkers. Uber partnered with Touring Club Switzerland and Procap to provide this driver training.

Uber Assist costs the same as Uber X, making it an affordable option for passengers who need assistance. However, it’s important to note that Uber Assist does not accommodate passengers using wheelchairs, and Uber is working to expand its services to include wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

Uber Childseat: A Safe Ride for Families

The second new feature is Uber Childseat, which lets parents book a ride with a child seat included. This service is a big win for families, as Swiss law requires children under 12 years old or shorter than 150 centimeters to use a child seat while traveling.

Before this, families struggled to use Uber, as child seats were not part of the standard offering. With Uber Childseat, parents can now easily find a ride with a seat for their child. There is an extra fee of 3 Swiss francs for this service, which many parents will consider a small price to pay for safety and convenience.

A Step Toward More Accessible Transportation

These new services reflect Uber’s commitment to making transportation more accessible in Switzerland. Uber Assist and Uber Childseat help both families and people with mobility challenges travel more easily in Zurich, Basel, Lausanne, and Geneva.

While these services are currently available only in these four cities, Uber plans to expand them across Switzerland. The company is also working on adding wheelchair-accessible vehicles in the future, further improving its offerings for all users.
